We are the peak national organisation dedicated to connecting students with real-world work experiences.

Think of us as the central hub for what is known as work-integrated learning, or "WIL"; for short.

Our community is made up of universities, TAFEs, companies, and community groups from all across the country. Together, we work to ensure every student has the chance to participate in a valuable work experience as part of their education.

What is Work-Integrated Learning (WIL)?

Ever wondered how you get real-world experience before you even graduate?

That’s where work-integrated learning, or WIL, comes in. At its heart, WIL is a simple but powerful idea: it’s about connecting what you learn in the classroom with practical, hands-on experience in a real workplace.

ACADEMIC CASE STUDIES

Improving competency-based assessment in WIL using programmatic assessment

Using participatory action research, we engaged stakeholders to redesign the competency-based assessment (CBA) for the WIL component of the Master of Nutrition and Dietetics. Stakeholders and academics collaborated in six workshops that evaluated current practices and redesigned WIL assessment in accordance with the principles of programmatic assessment

INDUSTRY CASE STUDIES

The Live Ideas Initiative

Live Ideas provides real-world opportunities for Southern Cross University students and staff to collaborate with community partners for mutual benefit. Partners submit project ideas via an online platform. Submissions are moderated by the University for value to student learning against 10 key impact areas.

STUDENT REFLECTIONS

Paramedic Placement in Ingham

In a far northern town with sparse resources available, it was eye opening to be a part of a small team to treat patients across a vast distance. When things went downhill, it truly is just you and your crew to use your skills, knowledge and problem solving skills to help and treat the patient. Working in a rural town enhances your learning environment, challenging you to think by yourself and pushing you out of your comfort zone
